Gosta W. Iwasiuk MD, FACS was born in Linz, Austria. His family immigrated to the USA in 1954. He grew up in Peoria, Illinois where he graduated Valedictorian of his high school class. He received his pre-med education from Bradley University, and started Medical School at the University of Illinois in Chicago, but finished at UCLA graduating with honors and being inducted into AOA, the medical honorary fraternity.
His internship was held at LA County USC Medical Center. His love for all medical specialties led him to take residency training in General Practice at Ventura County Hospital where he was Chief Resident in his final year. He served two years in the Air Force during the Vietnam era, attaining the rank of Major. He returned to Ventura County to start general practice and did so until 1977 when he decided to enter a surgical residency at the University of Irvine; he finished his chief year at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. He has been in practice limited to surgery since 1981.
He is Board Certified in General Surgery and has recertified, attaining a ranking in the 99th percentile nationwide. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and served as a board member of the Southern California Chapter. He also served as president of the Ventura County Medical Society as well as Chief of Staff of Santa Paula Memorial Hospital and Ventura County Medical Center, and also was a delegate to the California Medical Association.
His professional interests run the gamut of General Surgery with special interests in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery. His hobbies include skiing, biking, recently biking throughout Tuscany, and sculpting, as well as writing his memoirs.
